Once again we were asked today for the recipe for our Steak & Kidney Pie. Alas we are unable to oblige given its somewhat colourful provenance. Indeed due to the fact that refusal often offends the following notice has been posted in our window:

We are unable to provide details of the very secret recipe for our extraordinarily good steak and kidney pies. We can however tell you that the recipe was found by band of conquering Romans within the ruins of an ancient castle. The secret of the pie was then passed to a beautiful serving wench who later went on to become the wife of a brilliant, powerful and fabulously wealthy senator. She bore him many sons and the marriage flourished until our serving wench caught him in the arms another. Taking with her the many sons and all of the fabulous wealth she despatched herself to the West Country where she formed a liaison with a travelling harpist. Over the years the recipe has been passed down through a carpet maker, two bishops, the famous highwayman Dick Turpin and various other ne'er do wells. It now falls to The Brampton Pie Company to guard the secret of the pie and if the secret is revealed we are sworn to place the recipient within a bed of the lightest hand made shortcrust and bake him (or her as the case may be).

In response to:The Best Pies In the World

Never thought I'd see a blog from these guys, but they sure are good pies.
